The Calm After the Storm

[slideshow]

I love these pictures of Charis - there were quite a few more with her tongue hanging out that exact same way...she's so cute!

We had such a good day today. Cayman was pleasant and entertaining. The falcon stayed quiet :)...of course you know how adorable, cute, fabulous I think that little falcon is! And because the kids were up fairly late last night (after our small group), Charis woke up at 7:30 to eat, and then she went back to sleep for 2 hours after that. And you better believe Mommy did too! Cayman helped me vacuum this morning. Kind of. He pushed it around our room, but because he's shorter than the vacuum, the head/brush was lifted off the carpet the whole time. But, he really did help me clean up the house so that I could vacuum. He's a good little helper. We also went on a walk this morning up to the playground. I thought it was going to be a little cool - love 70s - so the kids wore pants, Charis wore a long sleeved shirt, and I wore a long-sleeved shirt with shorts. It definitely was warm enough for all of us to wear tank tops and shorts! Ok, maybe not tank tops. But it was hot. I was sweating by the time we got back home. Cayman loves playing in the sand at the playground. I hate that he likes playing in the sand. I loathe sand. I think that's the main reason we haven't visited the beaches very often. It gets all stuck on your hands, it gets in your shoes and socks and in between your toes. Ugh. I'm not a fan. But of course my son is. Oh well. Boys will be boys.

I made "greasy chicken and noodles" tonight for supper. It's Ian's all-time favorite meal that his mama makes for him. I've tried making it once before, and I don't know what happened but it was not good. I don't think I've ever attempted it again. But he asked for it this week, and he NEVER requests meals, so I agreed. Bonnie told me all the ingredients we needed and later emailed me the recipe. Ian was worried from the very beginning because I did not buy the exact same things that his mama buys. I didn't buy Mueller's shells. And I bought boneless chicken thighs instead of bone-in chicken breasts. I told Ian that I was going to make his favorite meal on the Moody family budget. I think he rolled his eyes. But when he took that first bite, he said, "This is really good!" If you know my husband, you know that I looked at him for a good 10 seconds to see if he was going to start smiling, but when he didn't, I asked, "Are you serious?" "Yeah - I really like it!" Woohoo! And then my sweet little guy pipes up, "MMm - Mmm - Mmm! Dis good, Mama!" And then 30 seconds later, "Dis very good!" I think I almost started crying. Mainly because my baby boy is definitely no baby anymore. He's a very talkative toddler, in fact. While we were on our walk, we passed a truck, and Cayman said, "Look Mama! Fire truck!" I said, "No, that's not a fire truck, buddy." "Yes it is! Yes it is, Mama!" After about the 7th "argument" I had with my 2 year old where his response was either "Yes it is, Mama" or "No it's not, Mama," I finally said, "Cayman, I just want you to know that you're not always going to be right." "Yes I am." Seriously? Already?

After dinner, we enjoyed a nice walk around our neighborhood. Cayman got so excited when he saw the moon and the stars. But he eventually sat back and just enjoyed the ride. Ian and I enjoyed a quiet conversation and some exercise. He got more than me though because he pushed our limousine. BUT! I happened to weigh myself tonight, and I've finally gotten down to the 150s! And I don't care who knows it! Unfortunately I succumbed to the overwhelming urge to eat milk and oreos before bed. So I might possibly be out of the 150s again...I refuse to go check though. For tonight, I will relish in the fact that I've passed another mile-marker on my journey to the old me....even if I backtracked a little bit already!

  1. I guess I should've said in my recipe that you don't have to use bone-in chicken breasts. I would use a whole chicken, but one of us (who shal remain nameless) only likes breasts, so that's why I use breasts. And, for all of those out there who are saying to themselves "GREASY Chicken and Noodles"? It's not nearly as greasy as it was when it was given that name (by the same person who shall remain nameless). Glad it turned out well, Aly; I'm proud of you. Now, you only have to master the "white icing"!!! :o)

LOVED your blog updates, as I always do.

    Always,

  2. Sometimes I use whole chickens for recipes...but other times, they just gross me out so bad for some reason! So I just choose the boneless stuff... Oddly enough, I HATE messing with raw chicken. Cooked chicken isn't a whole lot better. I don't think I could ever work in the kitchen at Ian's store!
I will save the white icing for another lifetime..... haha! :)
    Love you
