According to Cayman, we went to see whales today! Thats what I get for trying to explain what a manatee looks like to a 2 year old. All he heard was the word "whale" out of the following conversation: "Cayman, would you like to go see manatees today? A manatee is a very large animal, like a whale or dolphin, that lives in the water! Do you want to go see one?" "I go see WHALE! Daddy, we going to see a whale today!" Oh well.
We definitely got to see some manatees today! A friend told me about this place called Manatee Park where groups of manatees gather during the winter because a plant across the street from the park releases warm, fresh water, which manatees love to drink. (I think...I didn't listen to the lady giving the tour and informative talk...) There were also a TON of fish - tarpon is what another bystander called them. He also corrected Ian when Ian told me to look at the baby shark in the water. "No, those are actually little catfish." "Why, thank you, Mr. Expert!" :) Only kidding. At first, all we saw were the fish. But as we kept walking down the path alongside the canal, we came to a little cove, and there in the cove, basking in the warm sunlight, were at least 15 manatees! There were some that were HUGE! And then there were other baby manatees. It was so neat! And of course there were MORE fish all around the manatees - Cayman liked these the most. Because they jumped out of the water sometimes.
After we saw the manatees, Cayman got to do one of his favorite things - play on the playground with his daddy!! That boy loves his daddy! And that daddy loves his boy! We definitely enjoyed our morning together.
