Today was an interesting day. Ian was super busy at work, so he didn't get home until almost bed time. So the kids and I had the place to ourselves all day long! :)
I made plans this morning to make Ian's favorite meal for supper tonight, and then when I called him to see if it was time to go ahead and start on dinner, he told me he wouldn't be home until really late. But I just went ahead and made it anyways because it was too late to choose something else by then! I finally found a meal that both of my children will eat...and eat well! Pancakes and scrambled eggs! Cayman ate two HUGE pancakes...one in the shape of Mickey Mouse and the other was a smiley face, both with "boo-berries" for the eyes and mouth. And he ate a helping of scrambled eggs. Charis ate cheerios and two pancakes! She ate a little bit of corn today, one mandarin orange, Kraft mac and cheese, and two pancakes. I tried to force the mandarin orange in her mouth and she kept spitting it out - the same with applesauce. The child tends to have nothing to do with fruit! Well, she hardly eats veggies anymore either. She loads up on carbs! I can't wait to go to her 9 month visit next week and find out what I should do about her diet. (I know...not worry about it according to my daddy... But I'd really like to avoid having a picky eater if at all possible!!)
I am really, REALLY not looking forward to the rest of her teeth coming in. This is pretty miserable. I had to bathe her this morning when she woke up (well, bathed both of them because Cayman can't resist a swim in the tub), because she woke up with dried yuckiness all over her face. It just looked gross and I decided it was time for a bath. So I know her nose had been yucky at some point during the night. Then after meals she gets this yucky cough which usually results in her coughing until she spits something up. Disgusting. And because she's teething her poo is HORRIBLE. I had to throw one of her cute shirts away today because she totally ruined it with a LOADED diaper. Not to mention the mess I had to clean up off the carpet because I didn't know until it was too late that she had completely loaded her diaper (and then some.......if you get my drift...) Between the spit up, the poo, and her accidentally pulling a full bowl of mac and cheese off the table and onto the floor, it was just one yucky day.
Thankfully Cayman had a no-tantrum day, and he took a nap (he's been skipping those some recently). So overall we had a great day, and I made it through the time of night when normally I'm ready to pull my hair out without Ian at home. (Trying to cook dinner, alone, with two hungry/screaming children is enough to send me flying through the screen on our back porch! Tonight I survived by feeding Charis cheerios, while cooking eggs, flipping pancakes, and letting Cayman sit on the counter and watch me cook.)
But the biggest part of the day is that I THINK I can officially type that Charis is now crawling. Slowly, but surely, she is coordinating her arms and legs to move her to wherever it is she wants to be. Tonight she wanted to be right at mommy's feet while she flipped pancakes - big brother showed her that there was a drawer beneath the oven so she was fascinated by that and made her way over there to check things out for herself. She also desperately wanted to grab the electrical cord of my straightening iron that was hanging down to the floor in the bathroom. (The iron WAS NOT on. I repeat. The iron was NOT on. And it was moved rather quickly.) I've got my work cut out for me!
I almost forgot - Charis also signed "All done" for the first time today! She's so smart :) And I'm so biased.
