Charis' 6 Month Check-up

It's official. My baby girl is petite. Thankfully though, she rose on the weight chart to the whopping 28th percentile! (Increase from 15th percentile at her 4 month visit.) She now weighs...drum roll please...14 pounds and 3 ounces. And she's 26 inches long (which puts her in the 61st percentile...decrease from 4 month when she was at 81st percentile or something like that.) The doctor was not concerned. In fact she was pleased to see growth. We are to continue solid foods, eating two jars a day along with oatmeal cereal. We're starting on fruits this week, and she'll probably be eating prunes once or twice a week to help her out with some digestive issues...if you get my drift... Oh, and we're decreasing the reflux medicine. It's time to start weaning her off of it. So for a couple of weeks, she'll get two doses a day, and eventually we'll work our way down to one dose a day. We're supposed to look for signs that her spit up is burning/bothering her. (Usually when she spits up, she acts like it doesn't bother her. If I'm not watching her, I usually have no idea that she's even spit up. Cayman tells me sometimes!) So it will be interesting to see if a decrease in the Zantac causes her discomfort. Let's see. What else? I mentioned that she doesn't really roll over at all. She's done it before, so I know she's able to. She just hardly does it. The doctor wasn't concerned especially when she saw how well Charis is able to sit up unassisted and pull herself to a standing position (when you grab her hands). So no concerns as far as motor skills go either.

The doctor also praised Cayman's behavior while we were there...even though he did draw on the examining table while she and I were discussing Charis. Thankfully his doodling came right off. But I did have to take a picture of something he drew (on the paper) before the doctor came in the room. I gave him a pen to write with (he said, "Pen, please, mommy?") and he immediately and without prompting drew a circle and said, "dat circle mommy!" I was so proud of him!

We've drawn hundreds of circles with him and for him. But that was the first time he did it all by himself and without me asking him what shape that was. Yay for my little guy! He also got to help the doctor while she was examining Charis. He watched very closely as she listened to Charis' heartbeat and as she looked for "birdies" in Charis' ears (she had 2 birds in her ears...and was very "waxy" as the doctor put it.)

We went straight to the grocery store after the doctor's visit. Late morning is the perfect time to go! There were so many older people doing their grocery shopping - Cayman made quite a few peoples' days today! He said hello (numerous times to one older lady who didn't realize Cayman was speaking to her), he showed off his cookie, he told people his name and his baby's name (today her name was "baby" not "Charis")...the elderly lady and elderly man that checked us out and bagged our groceries were especially fond of Cayman. The lady came around the register so that she could bend down and talk to Cayman and tickle Charis' feet. She reached out her hand to let Cayman shake her hand and Cayman hit it (to give her a high five!) She was so tiny and it happened unexpectedly that Cayman hit her arm into the side of the buggy. She just laughed and thought he was the cutest thing. I think we'll continue doing our grocery shopping at that time of the day...and going to Publix instead of Walmart. There's a world of difference in the two!

  1. So happy about a good check-up. Any shots? Did she cry about anything? We think Cayman is a genius!!!
