I had some shipping to do, so we went to Office Depot first to mail everything. It took longer than expected, so we didn't get to the grocery store until 11:45. Did I turn around and just decide to shop another day? Of course not! BIG mistake. Ok. I should give my kids a little more credit than that. It wasn't a BIG mistake until about 30 minutes into our trip. At that point, Charis just couldn't stand it any longer because she was hungry. The initial excitement over sitting side by side in the buggy turning their steering wheels in the special buggy had waned. Cayman's (free) sugar cookie was all gone. He wanted some of whatever Charis was eating...his goldfish were no longer good enough. It took me 30 minutes to get through 2/3 of the store and another 30 minutes to get through the remaining because I kept having to stop and give Charis her puffs. And then to add icing to the cake, when we got up to the register, I had to split up the groceries because some of them were for the CFA party we're having over here, and the rest were for our family. So they needed to be on separate receipts. Then when I started pulling out my cash, I remembered that I had paid with cash for all the shipping. I didn't have enough to pay for all of the groceries! Ugh. I quickly searched the bag for my wallet only to remember leaving it in the van in a different bag. Thankfully, I keep my checkbook with me, so quick thinking Alyson just decided to pay with a check. Then the clerk asked me for my license. :( The bagger had to push the cart out with me to the van (I couldn't leave the kids in the grocery store with a bunch of strangers!) so that I could get my wallet, then he walked us all the way back in, I finished paying, and THEN he walked us back out to the van in the blustery cold! I felt like a complete goober by the end of the trip. But I'm finished shopping for the week, including everything that I will need for the dinner party we're having, as well as almost all of my baking that I will be doing for friends, employees and neighbors. (I did forget pretzels which were on my list today so maybe my sweet hubby will stop and pick them up for me one day!)
One day, I will remember to grocery shop first thing in the morning!

[/caption]This has nothing to do with grocery shopping, but I feel the need to share after my blog from yesterday. I had a hard time feeling homesick yesterday. And as you know from my other posts, it's been tough for me to not have our Christmas tree this year with all of our beautiful ornaments. I love having a real Christmas tree. We always had one growing up, and this will be the first year since we've been married that Ian and I haven't gone to pick one out together. I have finally come to accept our Florida Christmas tree, and I actually enjoy looking at it, and I'm sure I will enjoy seeing pictures in the years to come of our little fake tree. The pictures will invoke plenty of fond memories I'm sure.
I feel like just when I've needed a little pick-me-up this holiday season, the Lord has just really surprised me with something special. Ian just called me. He said that we have a real Christmas tree (with stand and lights included) waiting on us if we want to go pick it up tonight! The CFA in Port Charlotte got a tree, decorated it, and the fire marshall just came in and told the operator it's a fire hazard and needs to be removed immediately. I hate it for Ed, but I love it for our family!
Now I need to find some more boxes I can wrap to fill out the bottoms of both of our trees. Here I come pantry! :)
