What a busy day!
I love having our best friends here with us! It feels just like old times. I miss living in the same town as them and getting to stay up late playing cards and chatting about hilarious topics. But we get to make the most of every opportunity we have together now, so that makes our time together extra special!
The church service this morning was great - I love when you hear a sermon that totally makes you rethink a story you've heard hundreds of times. Last week it was the story of Mary and Martha. This week, it was the story of Jesus' birth...the miracle of the conception, Jesus' humble birth in a stable, the chaotic events taking place at Jesus' birth, etc. Ian and I both commented afterwards that we had never thought about things in the way that the pastor talked about things today. It was great. We were encouraged to ponder on more important things this Christmas season -- our family, our faith, and our freedom. One thing that really convicted me was how much time I take away from my family because of electronics... blackberry, laptop, TV, etc. So on Christmas day, I've decided to dedicate the entire day to my family. It will be extremely tough...but I'm turning everything off. We'll make phone calls to our family to wish them a "Merry Christmas," but after those phone calls, the rest of the day is dedicated to my little family. This is extremely silly, but the hardest part will be not blogging! I've come to love this part of my day. However it will also mean that I will not complete my "blog everyday for an entire year" feat. I can manipulate the situation though, and write two blogs the next day, change the date on one to the 25th and make it LOOK like I wrote one each day. (Seriously, am I THAT desperate?!?! Haha! I guess you'll find out!!!) All jokes aside, I am definitely looking forward to spending the day with my family. Should be fun -- whatever it entails!
Tonight we had our dinner party for the managers of the store. The general manager couldn't come because he was sick, so there only ended up being 2 managers and their spouses over. We probably had enough food to feed about 10 more people. :) At least everyone seemed to enjoy it! We had honey glazed ham, sinful potatoes (hashbrown casserole), green beans, honey glazed carrots, and dinner rolls. After our company left, we put the kids to bed and broke out the deck of cards for a friendly game of spades. The Roberts won tonight's round...hopefully the Moodys will strike back another evening.
