Just a few more things...

We just can't seem to shake these yucky germs going around! Cayman started with his incessant coughing last Saturday. While it's gotten better, it's still sticking around, and so is the continual drippage from his nose! He hasn't been sleeping through the night because of it, but thankfully last night he only woke up once...no make that twice. Once was before Ian and I went to bed, and the second time was around 2 I believe.

Charis on the other hand...Lord have mercy on that child...she didn't go to bed until midnight last night. Poor Ian was on kid duty until we went to bed, and then I was going to be on over-night duty. He eventually gave up because every single time we put Charis down in her bed she would start crying about 15 minutes later because she couldn't breathe through her nose, she had thrown up, or she was just miserable....or all of the above! We changed her pajamas a minimum of 5 times from 8-12 last night. And then again soon after she woke up this morning around 7:30 (early for her... well, early for all of us!) It was a mess! She's been fine all day today - hardly any coughing, runny nose, not fussy - and I just laid her down for her nap and she's been sleeping (thankfully!) but coughing and sneezing the entire time! Poor thing. However, she does have tooth #6 to show for all of it! (Ok seriously - how many more teeth do we have to suffer through?! This happens every time! The only tooth that wasn't that bad was #5.... Ugh.)

To make matters worse, the momma is sick too! My throat hurts so incredibly bad - meds won't touch it. And my nose is running like crazy. The Lord multiplied the amount of sleep I got last night, and it helped to make up for the two previous nights before that when I got a combined total of about 9 hours because of having to get up with the kids. So I feel ok today, thankfully!

On a totally different note... I've discovered that I can download books to my iphone for free! Not all books, of course. But I downloaded some classics that I've always wanted to read and just never checked them out at the library for one reason or another. I've finished The Swiss Family Robinson and The Secret Garden. I can definitely see why they're considered classics - they were great reads! I never had any idea that The Swiss Family Robinson would have so many great words of wisdom concerning parenting, including guiding a family spiritually. Truly an amazing, inspiring book! Next up is either The Jungle Book or Around the World in 80 Days.

Now on to confessional time...

Our gingerbread house finally made its way to the trash today... I think Ian and I were having a competition to see who could last the longest without trashing it. Looks like he won because when I got on a cleaning spree in the kitchen today, scrubbing down and cleaning off all the countertops, the gingerbread house made its way to its final dwelling place. Can't wait to decorate another later this year! Maybe we'll decorate it in October, and then we'll be ready to trash it with the rest of the Christmas litter!

Hey Mom - what all children's sermons can you get from this story? Procrastination? "Christmas litter"? I dare you to come up with something!

  1. finally!! I just sat here and caught up on all the blogs! I must say you two really need to leave closer to grandparents!! Seriously, I can hardly stand reading about being alone and not having "Mama" to call and come help!! I love the pictures so much...almost puts me there! Sorry, I would've needed the gingerbread house to show as my object lesson!

  2. I, too, have just gotten caught up on blog reading. Of course, I've looked fervently (is that the right word?) for the last two days and must admit...I was disappointed to find no update. Thank you for bringing us up-to-date.

Yes, you need to live closer to your Mama (than to me) 'cause I'm not real sure I'd want to subject myself to all that!!! Mama can take care of the sick babies and I'll....I'll....I'll take you out to dinner. That's what I'LL do!!! :)

    REALLY enjoyed Cayman's Quips, too!

    Love ya,
    "Mena"
