As soon as we get to the kids' zone area at church, there's a table where we sign the kids in. I usually sign Charis in. She gets a sticker that goes on her back and a sticker to go on her bag. Both have a number on them, and that's her number for the day in case she needs anything during the service. Her name will show up on the screen, and we'll go see what she needs. (After all the Sundays we've been visiting that church, we've only seen one number show up on the screens...not either one of our numbers.)
Ian usually signs Cayman in when we get there. The older kids have wristbands that they wear during the service. The parents write their names and any allergies the child may have. (Our son is "allergic" to any/all juice according to Daddy because we don't want them giving him juice during the service. Cayman never gets juice. Silly, maybe. But we save money on our grocery bill by not having to buy gallons of juice each month!)
So after the service, I went to pick up Charis while Ian picked up Cayman. I noticed that it was taking Ian a little longer than usual to get Cayman, so I poked my head around the partition to see what was going on. There was a long line at the 3 year old's room (they mix the 2's and 3's for our service), and Ian was at the front. He told me the story afterwards, laughing the whole time. He went to the door and told them he was there to pick up Cayman. They looked at him like he was a little crazy. "Cayman?" they asked him.
"Yes, Cayman, that little boy right there looking at me."
"We've been calling him Ian the whole time!"
"Did I write 'Ian Moody' on his wristband instead of 'Cayman Moody'?"
"You sure did! He kept trying to correct us the whole time, but we couldn't understand what he was saying!"
My poor son was called Ian all morning long. And he kept trying to tell them that his name was not Ian. I can hear him now... "My name Cayman!"
