Day 5 - June 8 - Wednesday

I hardly have any idea what my kids did on this day. Ian and I went with my parents to Universal Studios. My parents had never been, and when they had accidentally driven past it on the way to the house for the first time, they both mentioned that they'd like to go there one day. We had two extra tickets from an event earlier in the year, so we decided to take them!

We got there about an hour or so after the park opened. We stood in line for Shrek 4-D (which is so fun!). But what was even more fun was the fact that Mom had NO IDEA what was going to happen during the "experience." She squealed in delight when the seats started moving, and then she couldn't quit laughing the entire time we were in the theater! It was great.

Let's see - I think we then went to the "Twister" experience (not worth the wait...) By then, it was time for lunch! (Yes, two theater experiences, and then time for lunch...it was pretty crowded!) After lunch, we rode "The Mummy Returns." By far, my most favorite ride! I love that one. It's a completely enclosed (in a warehouse) roller coaster. (I do NOT ride roller coasters that go upside down or do corkscrews or anything like that. So this roller coaster definitely did not do that.) But it goes fast, and there are surprises around every corner! It was great.

After this, we decided to jump to the sister park, Islands of Adventure. Here, we split up - the women went to ride the easy rides and the men found the big boy rides! Mom and I went to the Spiderman ride while Dad and Ian went to ride the Hulk. The Spiderman ride was a lot of fun - it was a 3-D ride that took you along with a car full of people through the streets dodging evil villains and watching Spiderman  save the day. 3-D rides totally mess with my head! It is unreal what your mind does in situations like that! My poor daddy though...he was all for riding the Hulk! But.... I don't think his body liked it very much. He was quite nauseous following the ride. But he was willing and ready for the next adventure!

We walked through Jurassic Park (thinking there was another ride there we could ride, but it ended up being for kids...) so we decided to meet the boys and head to the World of Harry Potter. Ian went to Universal not long ago with some team members soon after this part of the park opened. He came home just going on and on about the new Harry Potter ride like it was the most amazing thing ever! So off we went to try out the Harry Potter ride. We decided to split up our party and do single rider so we could get through the ride faster. But as it turned out, Ian rode in a car in front of me, mom, and daddy. So we weren't completely split up. The three of us had no idea what to expect - Ian said he didn't think it would make us sick. BOY was he wrong! He does not know the Russell inner ear issues! We get so motion sick. And poor Daddy was already about to puke after the Hulk ride! We got off of that (incredibly designed) ride, and the three of us stumbled off the ride and stood beside the trashcan and cool wall for a solid five minutes. I have NEVER seen my daddy so pale in all of my life! I seriously didn't think he was going to be able to hold it together. But he did - we all did. And there stood Ian, dying laughing! (Not because we were sick, but that he was so shocked we were sick! He could not believe that ride made us so nauseous.) We left the Hogwarts castle and headed straight to a drink stand. We needed something to settle our tummies! My poor daddy rode a rock for about thirty minutes while mom, Ian, and I went to ride a short "family friendly" ride in the World of Harry Potter. Unfortunately we stood in line for thirty minutes and didn't get to ride it because the line was moving unbelievably slow. We made it to our final "adventure" of the day - Poseidon's Fury - a cool, indoor experience...no ride, no motion sickness...just a nice, cool way to end our day!

Overall it was a great day - just the four of us - it was the first time the four of us have ever done anything alone! Good memories, and apparently we allowed my parents to cross another thing of their "bucket lists." :)
