June 4 - Day 1 - Saturday
What an emotional day! We were up bright and early - partly thanks to our sweet little daughter, partly because we knew we had so much to accomplish in a short period of time!
We discovered late Friday night that all of our belongings were not going to fit in our van (even after Ian bought some things at Walmart to be able to tie suitcases and other things down on the roof.) So. Ian chose to leave the house that morning to drop some things off at Chick-fil-A, and he took another large load to the consignment shop. I'm kind of bummed that I didn't know weeks ago that we weren't going to be able to fit everything in the van because I would have chosen to consign lesser important things as opposed to the things I was forced to consign (due to the van already being packed and not having the time to unpack the van, choose which things I did want to consign and then repack the van... blah, blah, blah - I know... Get to the pictures right?) I feel like we got jipped out of some money because we consigned our larger baby items (pack-n-play, bouncy seat, swing, high chair seat, bumbo....oh wait. we didn't consign the bouncy seat because Ian accidentally left it in the parking lot when he left one consignment shop to drive to another...soo...somebody got a free bouncy seat! Poor guy. He had a lot on his mind!) Anyways - we got $30 for all of those items :( $30. I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.
While he was gone, I cleaned and cleaned, packed our last minute items. And while I did all of this, our sweet neighbor, Laura, let Cayman and Charis play with her boys in their garage so I could finish everything before Ian came back. When Ian came back, he found spots in the van for all the last minute items, packed it up tight, and then we were off! I'm not going to lie - our kids could not see each other because of all the boxes piled up high between them in the van. I sat with bags at my feet (purse, diaper bag, some bags of snacks, etc) and a small box in my lap - no joke. But... The first leg of our journey only lasted a few minutes because we just drove to Chick-fil-A (one last time for lunch!) As we were pulling out, I found 2 cards in the van that Ian had picked up at Chick-fil-A that morning. One was from the whole team with sweet notes to Ian. The 2nd card was from the General Manager at the store, Paul. He wrote Ian a sweet message and added a gift card for any Disney store/restaurant (since he knew we were going to Orlando.) As soon as I saw it, the tears started flowing! I think it was a combination of the sweet gesture from Paul and the other team members, realizing it was the last time we would be leaving that neighborhood, stress from all the packing and cleaning...I was so emotional! Thankfully I pulled it together before we got to Chick-fil-A. And after those tears, there have been no more, but I definitely had a moment during our last hour in Cape Coral.
Following lunch at CFA, we started our drive to Orlando. It took us about 3 hours I guess. Charis slept for a while, and Cayman just watched a movie the whole time. We got there around four, and Mom, Dad, Clark, Kathy, and Graysan were already there! Jason, Allison, Garrett, and Harper pulled up about 20 minutes after we got there. I stood out by the van directing the men as to what items were to go into the house (all of our clothes, food, toys, etc for Orlando) and what items could stay in the van. Our van stayed pretty full the entire trip. I don't think Cayman and Charis could see each other until we arrived in Augusta!
Here's what we did our first day of vacation...
After supper, we walked around the pond out behind our "Oyando house" (as Cayman called it!) and found the big community pool and kids' play area. It was a very enjoyable first evening in Oyando!
