Halloween!

This was, by far, the craziest Halloween night ever! Fun. But definitely crazy. :) Cayman wanted to be Spiderman this year. And he wanted Charis to be a princess so he could rescue her. Luckily, Charis wanted to be a princess too. She was a fairy princess...I guess...she had wings. And I totally failed in getting cute pictures of them. I may have to redress them in their costumes tomorrow to get better pictures. :) We started our evening going as a family to Chick-fil-A for dinner. We were going to meet our friends, the Beans, there for supper because kids in costume got a free meal. We drive up in the parking lot and see a line of people at our register that goes all the way through the restaurant, almost out the door. Normally, I would love to see that line! Good business, right? Well unfortunately when you're married to a very hands on Chick-fil-A operator, who also happened to make the schedule for this week, and realized when we drove up in the parking lot that maybe he didn't quite schedule the right amount of people for this influx of customers...well, let's just say, our plans for the evening were thwarted. :) He ran inside and jumped behind the counter to help them get through the line of people a little faster. We got our meal and waited for the Beans to arrive. Cayman was going a little crazy because all he could think about was getting candy. And he didn't take a nap today. And he's kind of fighting allergies/cold symptoms again. So he was just grumpy all around. Not a fun dinner date. The Beans arrived, and we sat with them for a while, but I eventually told them we were going to head on over to the fall festival so that we could get out of the restaurant and into the van. We got to the festival, and there were TONS of people there. Like, pretty much the whole town of Elizabeth City. :) It was really crowded. And of course, we were there without Ian because he had to stay at the store. Thankfully the Beans happened to pull in right after us, and we all walked in together. We went straight to the Trunk or Treat part of the festival, and I have never seen cars so decorated! They went all out! While we were in the middle of the Trunk or Treat, Ian called to see where we were. An employee dropped him off at the church so he could be at the festival with us! Woohoo! We were going to take the kids to the bounce houses, but when we got over there, we discovered that the bounce houses were all set up in a field covered in MUD (following the hurricane rain...) It was nasty!! We apologized to the kids and told them we weren't going to be able to do the bounce houses... They quickly cheered up when we told them we'd go back to our neighborhood to do "real" trick-or-treating!

We opened the back of the van, put the seats down, and the Beans joined us in the van so we could drive around our neighborhood. (Yes, we cheated.) Towards the end of the evening, the kids were all going crazy wild, having a ball together in the back of the van. Too much fun and too much sugar! :)
We did have a great time though, and we're so thankful to have friends with kids at similar ages (seriously, almost the exact same ages - Noakea, 5, Cayman 4, Charis 2.5, Banyan 2, Avenlea newborn, Baby C almost born...) We're all used to the loud screaming, occasional fit, etc etc. It just works out great! :) And the best part? Ian got to go with us and be a part of everything after all!

I am totally failing on the photos... I had better get my act together before Baby C arrives, huh??? :)
