Last night before Charis went to bed, Ian walked her out to the mailbox. She put her little envelope in the mailbox, and they put the flag up. For those of you who are just joining us - yesterday, Charis took her nap for the first time ever without her Pie Pie. So when she woke up, we wrote a letter to the Paci Fairy and she decorated it with all kinds of stickers. This morning when we were leaving the house to go somewhere, we checked the mailbox, and sure enough, the Paci Fairy had left her a special treat in place of the letter! Charis was so excited! In fact, this afternoon when we went to the mailbox to check for "real" mail, she came running after me saying, "What'd the Paci Fairy leave me? Did the Paci Fairy come again??" Haha! Wonder how long that will last?
Inside the bag was a Strawberry Shortcake assorted pack of lip glosses and nail polishes. Big hit with my girl! The girl loves to get dirty, but she does love some girly things too. Just a little story about the dern gift.... Last night after Ian got home (around 9pm) I left for Walmart to go get the Paci Fairy gift. I remembered when we had been at Walmart earlier in the week that Charis had seen a clear zipper pouch full of small, girly nail polishes. I told her that she would have to wait until Christmas or something to get that present. So when I needed a small, inexpensive Paci Fairy gift for her, that was the only thing I could think of! I searched and searched and searched Walmart for that little pouch. I tried to remember everything that we had looked at recently at Walmart to try to retrace my steps to find the bag. Finally, around 10:15, after about 45 minutes of walking around Walmart (9 months pregnant, mind you...grr.....) I remembered that we had been at Big Lots when we saw that nifty little pouch of nail polishes, NOT WALMART! Geez. So I settled on an $8 tiny bag of lipsmackers glosses - way too much money to spend on something like that, but I had reached my limit. I walked to the registers and saw the $1 bin. On top was a nail polish set - one thing of nail polish with the little toe separator thing. So I searched through ALL the rest of the bins trying to find more nail polish, because I did want her to have more than one bottle. Of course there were no others left, 10 minutes after searching. "FORGET IT!!" I said to myself. I was so tired and sore, and I was definitely DONE being the Paci Fairy. :) I walked up to the register to pay for my lipsmackers tiny bag that held all of three tiny lip glosses and the nail polish from the dollar bin. Then I spotted it. A $4 gift box of Strawberry Shortcake assorted items...12 lip glosses and nail polishes altogether! Score! Finally, I could sleep a happy woman...right?
WRONG! Because all that walking so late at night sent my poor little uterus into a tailspin. I was up until 2am timing painful contractions at 3-4 minutes apart. I finally woke Ian up to go get me a big cup of water and some saltines, and finally around 1:30 I decided that if I were having REAL contractions at 3-4 minutes apart, I should have been in a lot more pain than I was (even though I was in the worst pain so far this pregnancy...I won't forget my contractions when I was in labor with Charis!!) I was so exhausted that I just laid there through the next 4-5 contractions and finally drifted off to sleep. Ugh. Miserable night.
But it was all worthwhile to see the excitement on Charis' face when we opened the mailbox this morning and found her gift. :) And then again this afternoon during naptime when she drifted off to sleep without me even having to go in the room to tell her book time was over, or threaten her not to get out of bed again, or tell her it was time to dry her tears...etc, etc. A drama-free, paci-free nap time!!
Woohoo! :)
Next up for my girl: POTTY TRAINING!
Stay tuned for Cayman's big story about the "Boo Fairy" -- but don't hold your breath. (Cayman has a lovie that he has had since about 3 months old. He sleeps with it every night - holds it up against his nose to smell it while he sucks his two middle fingers.) Fingers are a lot harder to lose than a pacifier... I'm thinking 5 will be a good cut off age.
And no, by "cut off age," I am not referring to cutting off his fingers. :)
