We've Been Busy!

Things have been extremely busy this week! And it all started on Sunday. We went to church Sunday morning, then went back for a communion service Sunday night. Then we were invited to go get ice cream (supper for Ian and me) at Dairy Queen with some new friends. There were nine kids and eight adults that invaded DQ that night. The AC was messed up; it was hot; the kids were all on sugar highs; we were all loud; it was a great night! For us anyways, probably not for the rest of the customers trying to enjoy a nice, quiet evening at DQ.

Ian has started leaving the house each morning around 8 or so to get out with his notebooks and iPad and do work! The kids are very distracting when he's trying to do work at the house. He goes to a local hotel or McDonald's to sit and do "stuff." He and I actually got quite a bit of Chick-fil-A work accomplished this week. He has completed the employee handbook (finally...27 pages later...), I created a fundraising packet that we plan to pass out to all the local schools as well as a party brochure which includes birthday and event information for the restaurant. We have also been reading through applications when they come in, alphabetizing them, sorting them, etc. And we've created folders for the 70 employees we'll hire which includes tax documents, information sheet, etc. that they'll fill out once they're hired. Hmm...let's see...last night we visited a local high school that was hosting a number of scrimmage volleyball games to make some connections, and then we drove out to Chesapeake, VA to eat at Chick-fil-A and pick up some applications that have been turned in at the stores up there. (While we were there, Charis and Cayman played in the play area...Charis was able to climb all the way up there for the first time! Unfortunately, she couldn't/didn't slide down so I had to climb up there to help her back down the stairs!)

The kids and I took advantage of some sales at the grocery store - I also took the time to print coupons since this store doubles all coupons everyday. I'm trying to get in the habit of searching for coupons before each trip to the grocery store...every penny helps right now!!! We also tried out a new park with Annette, Isaiah, Aidan, and Ridge yesterday. Cayman calls them "his friends"...they can't be "our" friends. They're just HIS. Charis is in love with all of them, but she especially loves Isaiah (the oldest.) He takes very good care of her whenever all the kids are playing together. Charis is DEFINITELY following in her mother's footsteps and is showing signs of tomboy-ism. She got FILTHY at the park...much nastier than any of the boys. She fell one time, scraped her knee, and just jumped up and kept on running. I had to run to catch up with her to clean it. Both kids needed a bath once we got home because they were just too nasty to even sit at the table for lunch!

I scored two black bookshelves for the kids' rooms (for toys and book storage) at Big Lots for only $12 a piece, and I finally got rid of all the plastic bins in their rooms. So we've still been doing some organizing around here. As soon as that happened though, 4 BIG boxes came in the mail for the restaurant, and there's obviously no where they can be stored at Chick-fil-A, so we had to find a space for them in Charis' closet. Her closet doors have been been closed since the day we moved in due to boxes we've placed in there! Soon though. Very soon.

We have taken our next "big boy step" with Cayman -- the next one since potty training. Boo, his security blanket, his "favorite thing" as he told me today, and our honorary 3rd child, is now confined to Cayman's bed. Boo may not leave his bed for any reason. If Cayman wants some "Boo time," he has to go get in his bed and hold Boo for a few minutes. Boo doesn't travel with us in the van, nor does he go to church with us, or anywhere else for that matter! Cayman has done EXCELLENT with this transition. I had no idea what to expect from him when we first started it, but I warned him for some time leading up to it, and I think that helped a bit. We told him that when he turned three Boo had to stay in his bed. Simple as that! And it has worked. Boo got a bath today, and it was so easy to sneak him away! :)

Our Chick-fil-A is moving right along as well. Ceiling tiles are being installed, the sidewalk has been poured as well as the patio area, and even some of the interior doors have been placed. Next week they will be pouring the cement pad for the parking lot and being installing the indoor play area! We can't wait!!!
