Happy Birthday, Cayman!

This morning I let Cayman choose what he wanted me to fix him for breakfast. "Cereal!" "Not pancakes??" I asked. "Cereal AND pancakes!" was his reply. So the birthday boy got cereal and pancakes...with jelly on the pancakes, of course.

The rest of the morning was spent playing with pillows on the couch - his new favorite pastime - and getting ready to head up to Chick-fil-A to record a video....which I will post soon. Cayman and Charis sat in the van while Ian and I got out to figure out how we wanted to shoot our footage. Then Ian checked the application box (where blank forms were placed for people to drop by and pick them up) only to realize it was empty! He thinks the construction superintendent didn't know he was allowed to put applications in there - at first I thought it was already empty because people saw the signs and had already come to pick up applications! I was going to be pretty shocked if it was already empty in the 12 hours since the signs had been posted. So we shot our video footage, stopping every now and then to talk to potential team members as they stopped at the site to pick up their own applications. Throughout the course of the day, Ian filled the mailbox holding the blank applications THREE times with 50+ forms each time! I sure hope we ordered enough.

We got home, and I immediately started editing the video, trying my best to make it look somewhat professional since we were going to be posting it online for the world to see. I think it turned out ok - always room for improvement, but not bad for our first time shooting/editing a video. Ian took the kids on a walk to feed the ducks, fixed their lunch, and put them down for naps. I hurried to get the video finished and posted. Then we began working on all the little final things of unpacking/organizing. Nothing gets you motivated to finish unpacking like having company over for dinner! We have two boxes left in our house...TWO. Huge improvement. And one of them is empty! It's our TV box that we have standing guard in front of the fireplace because a little mischievous someone likes to throw all the rocks onto the floor and occasionally eat some of them! The other box is full of MORE books and some DVDs. Seriously. One person in our family actually reads on a regular, recurring basis. And most of the time, she (why am I talking in third person....) reads them on her iPhone or Kindle app! WHY IN THE WORLD DO WE NEED SO MANY BOOKS!? But anyways. Company coming over. We prepared all the food for the grill and cleaned the house, organized somewhat (ok, maybe our drawers and cabinets are overflowing with things stuffed in to clear off dressers and counters!) all to get ready for the Tate's coming over!

We had a BLAST hanging out with them. I'm so thankful to have another family to hang out with that also has young children. Their boys are all older than our two, but they all play so well together! I hope that their boys have as much fun as our kids do because sometimes it seems like they're "babysitting" Charis most of the time. The boys all sat inside at our dining room table, while the adults and Charis sat outside on our deck. The boys came out to join us, and they enjoyed playing frisbee. Charis...well...she had fun all on her own. She's worse than a little boy. She might as well be a dog sometimes. :)

Finally, Cayman got to open his presents! He did what every typical child does - he threw all the cards behind him, and went straight for the gifts. (We're teaching thankfulness....not quite there, yet.) For his third birthday, Cayman got a new set of sheets for his new big boy bed, a beta fish named Mungun (that's practically dead already) along with a bowl/rocks/plant, a new DVD, money, Cootie (the game), a construction helmet, and a tool bench! I am oh so happy that he likes the tool bench as much as I hoped he would!!! In fact, it was a big hit with all the boys tonight. I asked him tonight if he liked his new tools.  He said, "No I wheely wheely like my tools!"

Still can't believe my sweet boy is three. I'm looking forward to all the changes this next year will bring! Thank you, Tate's, for sharing our boy's special day with us!!
