First of (hopefully) Many Beach Trips

Saturday morning Ian and I were laying in our bed with Cayman, who had woken up early. Out of nowhere I said, "We should go to the beach today." My spontaneous husband agreed! We were in for a fun day! I made a quick pancake breakfast and while everyone ate I quickly started gathering all the snacks, bathing suits, drinks, towels, etc etc. We left the house around 10:30, made a quick stop at the Tates house to borrow some of their beach toys, then a stop for gas, and then we were off! The Tates suggested a beach at Kitty Hawk so we typed it in our GPS and headed that way.

We drove for about 45 minutes and then we hit traffic. There's only one way to get to the Outer Banks from the north. So all OBX vacationers trying to start their vacation on Saturday must first endure the miles of traffic with all of the other vacationers! A forty-five minute drive ended up taking is two hours. By the time we found our parking spot near the public access, it was 1:00 - naptime! But we decided to just play and see how the day would turn out. I am so glad we endured the traffic and time delays for our first family trip to the beach!

We were very nervous about taking charis to the beach. She is our more adventurous child, and the last time we took her to the beach she she wasn't even walking. So we had no idea what to expect from her on this day. Quite to our surprise and relief, it was Charis who was terrified of the water. She walked straight in, but once the water started disappearing from where she was standing and the sand started covering her feet as the wave rushed out, she didn't know what to think! She turned around to run for dry ground but became so disoriented that she fell. In fact each time she tried to walk in the water she usually landed in the water crying hysterically. Poor thing. Cayman on the other hand enjoyed the water and they both loved the sand! We all had such a fun time and I cannot wait to return! I think we better hurry though before we get caught by cool weather!

Scoping out the joint upon arrival

Cayman made a beeline for the water!

Charis followed Cayman...but quickly ran back!

Me and my love :)

Couldn't believe that my claustrophobic prone son
wanted his legs buried!

We played in the sand, A LOT!

This child always needs her food!

You know she's tired if she falls asleep mid-snack!
(Notice the hand IN the goldfish!)
