My Baby is 4!!

I can hardly believe that my sweet boy has been out of my womb for four years now. It is fun to explain to him that my tummy that is growing everyday once held him snug and warm for so many months! A few times he has asked questions like, "Will I ever go back in your tummy?" Just like every other mother - I can't imagine that my big four year old was ever tiny enough to fit in my belly!

At four year olds, Cayman has a wide vocabulary -- far too many words to write! This September we will start a semi-relaxed preschool program for him. So far, he shows absolutely no interest in anything having to do with school - except for picking out Batman pencils, new scissors, and erasers - I think I will have my work cut out for me! He loves to watch "kid shows" (as he and Charis call them). If I were to try to ask him any "favorite" questions (EX: what's your favorite food, what's your favorite toy, etc) his usual answer is "all of it!" So there's not really a point in asking him anything like that. For his birthday this year, he got a train set, a scooter (with helmet and pads), a book bag, new matchbox cars, a Star Wars storm trooper mask and light saber, a magnetic puzzle book, some work books (for school), a Cars game set, and a personalized art case. As you can see, he's into just about everything - a little bit of this and a little bit of that! He still loves Boo and sucking his two fingers, but he will never suck his fingers without Boo ("because I have to smell Boo." ???) And he only gets Boo in his bed. So we have greatly cut down on how often those fingers are in his mouth. And he tell us that he will NOT go to sleep anywhere unless he has Boo. So I'm not sure how we will end up breaking him of either one of those habits. He sometimes enjoys playing with Charis...ok maybe most of the time...but we are constantly teaching them how to play nicely together. They have recently discovered pretending together - tonight, they were pretending they were out in the rain while making tea and steaks. While he was at Grammy's house, Cayman discovered the glorious male freedom of going shirtless. Daddy is still his only hero, preferred playmate, and jungle gym. (Mommy gets the occasional snuggle, especially in the morning and after nap...when he takes a nap.) He has a little bit of a temper, and he tends to be a bit of a drama king at times, but he is maturing more and more everyday. He likes to help with chores sometimes, especially cleaning the mirrors, but he loses interest in chores pretty quickly. (I can't blame him...so do I!!) He has become quite independent in recent weeks - he loves to dress himself and put on his shoes (velcro, crocs and boat shoes). He also loves to come up and kiss the baby (right on the belly - kissing my shirt just won't do...which is a bit awkward in public..........)

We sure do love our growing boy. We're trusting in the Lord that we are raising him in a way that will ultimately honor and glorify God. I know I fail on a daily basis; I'm just praying that I don't fail TOO badly! ;)
