Cayman's New Ride

The day of his birthday party at Chick-fil-A, a friend texted me to see what Cayman was into these days. That is a very hard question to answer because the child plays with the most random things available. So I asked Cayman if there was anything else he wanted for his birthday. This was his response: "I want one of those roller skates that you put one foot on it and one foot on the ground, and then you hold it on the handles, and then you push off with your foot." Any guesses? The correct answer is: a scooter! I had absolutely no idea he knew what a scooter was much less wanted one for his birthday!

I made plans to take him "back to school shopping" at Target one day (trying to boost his excitement about school this year...he's not 100% sold on it yet!) Someone gave him a Lightning McQueen car, and he already had one that looked exactly like it (each car did a little something different, but they were basically the same.) So I gave Cayman a choice: he could return the car to Target and pick something else out for his birthday, or he could keep it and have two cars exactly the same. After some thought, he decided on having his own monies in his pocket to spend at Target. Once we got there, he immediately decided he wanted to find the scooters. We found one that was basically the same price of his car! Score! We put it in the buggy, found a helmet to go with it, and went on with our school shopping. Once we got up to the register, I noticed the box was opened already. The cashier pulled it out to make sure all the pieces were in tact. We then went to eat (a horrible) lunch in the Target restaurant area. The whole time we sat there, I just kept thinking about how bummed Cayman would be if we drove all the way back to EC (when we go to Target, we have to drive to VA), got the scooter out of the box, realized something was wrong with it, and then he had to wait to get his scooter until we could return it. So I decided to take it back to customer service and just see if we could get cash back so I could try to find one at our Walmart. I'm so glad that was my final decision because when the lady took it out of the box, I immediately noticed that the little fender over the wheel was completely bent! Not sure how I missed it before, but I'm glad I caught it in the end! She gave me cash back, and we were on our way. We made it home in time for nap, and then went to Walmart once the kids woke up. Imagine my excitement when we made our way to the scooter section, and we found one that was on clearance (for no reason) for $15! And then we found a set of knee pads and elbow pads that was missing the set of gloves in the pack. So they sold us the set for $5 (instead of $10!) Score! Cayman was thrilled when we got home, and he finally got to go outside sporting all his new gear and test out his new scooter. Ian and I were quite surprised when he picked it up pretty quickly. I mean, he's no pro, but he can definitely get moving on his little scooter. He loves it!!

As you can see, Charis was never too far away from her Bubba

Action shot! :)
