This past weekend, we were invited to go to the beach with some of our best friends. One of our friends has another friend who owns a beach house in Nagshead, NC (southern part of the Outer Banks.) We had so much fun! Eight adults and 5 kids three and under makes for a really loud, crazy, fun, exciting weekend. :) Thankfully, there were four bedrooms, so each family had a bedroom and bathroom to themselves. The living area (kitchen, 1 bedroom, dining and living room) were all on the third floor, three of the bedrooms were on the 2nd floor, and the large playroom was on the 1st floor. There was also a pool and hot tub. The hot tub was definitely the favorite among the Moody kids! In fact, my son brought me to tears this weekend! As you may have read in an earlier post, Cayman has seemed to be terrified of the water. In fact, he absolutely, flat-out REFUSED to get in the pool at the Y for his swimming lessons. But this weekend...holy cow....another little boy came in and possessed my little boy in the hot tub! The first big boy thing he did was step down into the center, deeper part of the hot tub. (In his mind, if he tries to touch the bottom of the hot tub or pool, he's going to go under the water.) The second, and more major big boy thing he did was to put his face COMPLETELY UNDER THE WATER. Daddy got in the hot tub with us, and he showed Cayman how to go all the way under. Cayman watched and said, "I too scared to do that." Then Ian showed him how he could just put his face under. Cayman still said that he was too scared to do that. So then, I promised Cayman that if he tried it one time, he could have an entire blow pop all to himself. He said, "No! I too scared! *pause* Where are my goggles?" You better believe I jumped out of that hot tub, grabbed those goggles and put them on Cayman as fast as I could before he changed his mind! Sure enough, Ian put the goggles on him, he held his nose, closed his mouth, and went completely under the water. Of course, we ALL cheered for him! And then he surprised us by doing it over and over and over! Ian even held up fingers under the water and Cayman would go under and look and come back up to tell us how many fingers Ian had held up. I was so, so proud of my son!! Then on Sunday, Ian and the kids got in the hot tub one more time before we left, and Charis, this time surprised us. She jumped from the seats down into the middle of the hot tub. She loved it! Sometimes she'd go under, sometimes she'd swallow some water, but she'd just keep on doing it! Cayman started doing it too after he saw that Charis could do it. "Charis made me brave to do it." And then he shocked us again when he started jumping into the middle and immediately going under water - no goggles and no holding his nose! Hello?!?! What happened here??? Anyways. To say that we were proud is a little bit of an understatement.
The rest of the weekend was spent like this: lots of eating, lots of playing with matchbox cars, lots of cornhole, and lots and lots of talking and laughing! We forced ourselves to walk out to the beach Saturday despite the cold and wind! I couldn't imagine going to the "beach" without even stepping foot on the beach! So we lasted long enough to dig in the sand a bit and take pictures!
I can't wait until our next beach trip!!
