I believe I've discovered the first down side to being a stay-at-home mom. I HAVE NO SICK DAYS. It's not that I don't have any left in my contract with my company. It's not that I used my "sick days" to go on vacation with my husband. I have none. Zero. No sick days. Period.
Last night was miserable for me! I tossed and turned all night long thanks to a clogged nose and a head that felt like it was twice its normal size! Ugh. So needless to say, I was not ready to get out of bed this morning and start taking care of my two sweet kiddos. But of course Ian had to head off to work, and the kids weren't going to feed and change themselves. So I tried (really I did) to put my yucky feelings aside and take care of my kids and home. I managed to wash clothes, change sheets, put some yummy ribs in the crockpot for dinner, and can you imagine how thrilled I was when lunch was over and it was time for nap?!
You can imagine my distress when Cayman refused to lay down quietly. Charis laid right down and went to sleep. Cayman laid in his bed and "sang" or yelled or whatever it is he does in his room when he doesn't take a nap. I went in there numerous times to try to force him. Finally soon after 2 he quieted down, and I didn't hear from him again until 4:30. Unfortunately Charis woke up AS SOON as I laid my head down to take my nap once Cayman went to sleep. Needless to say, I did not make up for my horrible night's sleep last night! Don't you hate it when that happens?
But then. My hero came home.
Superdad walked in the door, sat down to eat supper with me and Cayman. [Once we all settled down with our food, Cayman looked at Ian and said, "So, Dad, what did you do today?" And then once Ian answered, Cayman said, "So, Mom, what did you do today?" Hilarious, that kid!] And then he cleared the table, told me to go to bed, took the kids to shower with him (yes, both of my children LOVE taking showers now), and then he took the kids out of the house to give me some time to rest. They went to Wal-mart to get Charis' birthday gifts, and then because Cayman was a good boy, he got to get some icecream from Chick-fil-A. They came home just in time to change into PJs! It was a great, great evening.
So. Would I change my "occupation" in life to one that gives me 5 sick days a year (or whatever the going rate is these days...)? Absolutely not. Never. Not in a hundred years. Would I prefer to stay well and healthy for the remainder of the time my children are under the age of 8? Absolutely. Yes. Yes, PLEASE!
You are adorable, funny, and right on!!!! :)
