The Royal Wedding

I gave in. Yep. I sure did. I watched the Royal Wedding today. In fact, Ian watched some of it too! I've avoided TLC all week (normally, one of my favorite channels) because of all the weirdo shows they've been airing. But today, we gave in.

And I'm kind of glad.

Years from now, when William is made king and Kate is crowned queen, the kids and I will reminisce on watching their wedding. Of course they won't remember it. But I will tell them what all they did while we watching the royal wedding on TV. (And in case you're wondering, NO WAY did we wake up at 4am to watch it. We caught it on the second go around!) During the royal wedding, we:

  • ate banana nut muffins (Cayman and Charis each ate one...after they had each eaten a full breakfast...Cayman ate a cereal bar and a granola bar while Charis ate 1/2 a banana, cheerios and toast.)
  • Cayman played with his trains (an absolute favorite right now...he plays with his Thomas lego trains a lot, and sometimes all by himself in his room -- something new for him)
  • Charis discovered the channel and volume buttons on the TV
  • Charis also found the styrofoam from her dad's box of workout equipment he ordered online
  • Cayman liked the horses and carriages, and when they were singing the hymns during the ceremony, he said "dat my song! I like dat song."
Many times this week, I've heard people say or have seen people write on Facebook how sad it's been to hear so much about the royal wedding on the news while much of the south has been tormented by the worst outbreak of tornadoes since the 70s. My heart does break for all of those affected by the storm, especially family friends who live in north Georgia.

But.

This wedding is a huge historical event! Centuries from now, unfortunately, historians will hardly remember the horrendous tornado season. But I believe they'll still be talking about the wedding of William and Kate, where an English commoner became a princess over night. As a history major, I just can't help but feel this way. On a personal level, I have read far more articles on the tornadoes than I have on the royal wedding! Just saying, people!

Ian made my day this morning while we watched the wedding. He and Cayman were talking about our wedding. Ian was asking Cayman if he liked our wedding, if he liked mommy's dress, if he thought mommy was beautiful on our wedding day... Of course Cayman had absolutely no idea what Ian was talking about, but he answered yes to each question. Something was said about how beautiful the bride looked on TV and Ian compared me to her. I rolled my eyes and said, "Ian you know I'm not as beautiful as her!" He, in turn, rolled HIS eyes, and assured me I was beautiful. And then he said, "I think you're beautiful everyday, but you were absolutely stunning on our wedding day!" Love. That. Man!

In honor of the royal wedding, I thought I'd share my favorite picture of us from our "royal wedding!" It was the wedding of MY century!!
