This year, our church decorated the large Christmas tree in the foyer with special ornaments. On each ornament was written a special task -- some type of service project in order to share the love of Christ during this holiday season. Each member of the church was encouraged to choose an ornament. They had ornaments on the bottom of the tree for the younger church members, ones in the middle of the tree for teens, and ones towards the top of the tree for the adults.
Our family took some time after the service to read over the ornaments and choose some that would allow opportunities for us to serve some in our community and around the world. What I've gotten out of this little exercise however, is that our family doesn't need an ornament to tell us how we can serve. There are opportunities all around us! Why haven't we already thought to do these things (or similar ideas) to encourage those who serve our community? I've been encouraged to do little acts of kindness year round - not just at Christmas - to show the love of Christ to all those around us.
Here is how Cayman chose to serve.
