We finally had the chance to let Callie meet Kyle, Jenn, Sadie, and Addie! And it only took a full month! (Goodness, this has been a busy time for us!!)
Ian surprised me last Wednesday with tickets to see my favorite band, Shane and Shane, in a Christmas concert at our alma mater in Wake Forest. He asked Jennifer if she could watch the kids in order for us to go. (Callie went with us -- thankfully -- since Kyle ended up having to work late!) But we got there a little early so we had time to do some Christmas shopping with Jenn and the girls, and then we all went out to eat before the concert. The concert was awesome, and we happened to sit with some old friends of ours from school. It was great to catch up, but it was even greater to listen to some amazing music in our old chapel! It made me miss that place so, so bad! I miss being in college!
Anyways. Friday, Jenn brought the girls for a weekend at our house since Kyle was working long hours. We had a blast all weekend long! I got lots of smiles from sweet Addie, Jenn got in some good snuggles with Callie, and the three older kids fought got to play a lot with each other! :) Saturday we were all out of the house by 9:20 to make it to Chick-fil-A in time to have our pictures taken with the Santa Cow. It was our big Christmas event, Breakfast with the Santa Cow. While we missed the actual event, the cow hung around until we got there so we could take our annual family Christmas picture. (We take Christmas pictures with the cow instead of with Santa! haha!)
THEN... Jenn and I attempted victoriously conquered going to the mall with all five kids. I had my awesome double stroller carrying Callie and Charis. Sadie sometimes rode, sometimes walked in a stroller. And Cayman walked. Until the last 5 minutes. :) Then he and Sadie switched. We went in two stores (our mall has around 10 stores total...), but we spent the majority of our time in one store. We had a dressing room area to ourselves; we blocked the entrance to our little area with the strollers so that the kids to get out of the strollers and slam doors and play and holler. Yes. We were "those" people in the clothing store! And hey, we only left one jacket, one sippy cup, and one pack of wipes behind in that dressing room area. (They gathered everything up for us after we left, and Jenn went back once we realized Sadie's jacket was missing. (We had no idea we were missing anything else!) I do love shopping with my best friend! She helps me find the cutest things. :) And we have tons of fun together. Even with five crazy kids!
Saturday night, we decided we wanted to bake cookies with the kids. We wanted to try our hands at sugar cookie cut-outs. It's a lot easier said than done...let's just put it that way. Unfortunately, Charis was the only child that napped well that day. Callie hasn't really been sleeping well at night, so I was exhausted by 7:30. Sadie didn't take a nap, and for a young two year old, that is detrimental. And for this particular two year old, it meant that she wanted nothing to do with baking cookies. Until the VERY end -- I think she cut out one or two cookies. :) Cayman didn't nap, but he is functional now without a nap. Needless to say, our first cookie making experience with the kids wasn't exactly the best time ever. But we had fun, and we made memories. That's all that counts. The cookies did not taste very good though. I probably won't attempt sugar cookie cut-outs anymore. I will buy them from the store. Much easier. And better tasting. :)
