Random Thoughts

So today I thought I would lump a few thoughts/happenings into one post instead of writing three short random posts. So here you go. :)

First Random Event:
As if we don't have enough going on in our lives right now (more on that at a later date...) I decided that I should toss another project into the mix. Mainly because I finally found what I've been looking for. But also because I've been dying to do this project ever since I saw it on pinterest. (of course...) I found an old entertainment center at the Salvation Army for $18 today. I wanted to talk her down, but apparently they're not too big on bargaining. So $18. Then I went to Walmart to look for a few more items I'd need for my little project. I bought some primer that is supposed to work great on laminate wood (of course, I also heard about it on...you guessed it...pinterest!), a set of roller brushes, a bowl, and some magnetic door closer things. Any guesses on what I'm making? That's right! A play kitchen for the kids! The bowl that I bought wasn't exactly what I wanted, but I figured it would do. Altogether, I think I spent another $15 at Walmart on supplies. (I will still need to buy another door handle, gray paint, and two hinges - but those shouldn't be too expensive.) Our awesome friends, Kyle and Meagan, were gracious enough to help me out with this project. Kyle has lots of power tools. And he knows how to use them. :) So, I went over tonight and we were able to knock out the first major steps of the project. (Ok. Maybe Kyle was able to knock it out. But I drilled the first hole and handed him the pencil. Oh yeah! I drew a marker line for him for one of his cuts too.) Anyways. the hole has been cut for the sink. And Meagan was able to solve my sink dilemma - she had a stainless steel small bowl (exactly what I was looking for at Walmart...but I was unwilling to pay the $10 for it!!). The entertainment center's door has been cut in two so that my sweet kiddos will have a "microwave" up top and an "oven" down bottom. And an awkward piece of wood that jutted off the back has been cut so there's a nice clean edge to sit against a wall. To finish the project up I will do a couple of coats of primer, paint everything, attach the doors, and then add all the fun kitchen details! I can't wait! But I know it will take me a while to get everything finished up.

Second Random Event:
I ordered our preschool curriculum today!! I'm so excited! We will officially start school in September, I've decided. We have found that Cayman does really well with transitions when we spend time talking about it with him and prepping him for that particular transition. (We especially noticed this with transitioning away from "Boo" - his little lovey blanket.) So I have started talking to him about it, but I haven't started prepping him as far as what his role will be, what my role will be, what we'll be doing, what it will be like, etc. When he gets back into town, Ian and I will start having lots of conversations with him about it. In case you're wondering, I went with the Horizons Preschool Curriculum Kit. I feel that it will offer me the structure I need to really feel like I'm teaching (as opposed to just something I do some days with Cayman to help him learn.) We may change things up for kindergarten, but I think this will be great for us for this first year. We will also continue reading chapter books. Before I left Augusta, I stopped at a large used book store and found GREAT books at even GREATER prices! I was thrilled. I bought Heidi, the entire series of the Chronicles of Narnia, Charlotte's Web, and maybe one or two more.

Third Random Thought:
I have realized I do have a couple of cravings this pregnancy. I LOVE Sonic's strawberry lemonade. Mmm!! And ASPARAGUS! I swear I could eat asparagus everyday just about. Just thinking about it is making my mouth water. Let it be known that other than the tempura asparagus from my favorite restaurant, Tako Sushi, I have never liked asparagus. I had never even tried asparagus until not long ago when it happened to come on a steak I ordered at a restaurant. But geez. Now Ian and I both love it. But I think I like it a little more than him. :)
Last night, Ian felt the baby for one of the first times. And I don't just mean he felt the baby kick. Oh no. He felt the baby! I'm not sure what part of the baby he felt on my tummy, but it was definitely hard, and it was definitely pushed right up against my belly (not too sure how to word it.) It was very strange! And a little painful. But it was fun nonetheless - any connection that Ian can make with our sweet baby is special in my eyes!

Fourth Random Event:
I love holding sweet tiny fresh out of the womb babies!! Can't wait until it's ours!! I went to visit some good friends of ours who just welcomed their sweet baby girl into the world. Thanks for letting me stop by hours after you arrived home from the hospital, sweet friend!! (She knows who she is!) ;)
