Baby C Update

First of all, let me begin by saying that we got so many great shots of our sweet Baby C today at our 20 week ultrasound. BUUUTTT.... For some reason BOTH of our computer's CD drives aren't working properly, so I can't upload any of the ultrasound pictures. And the only printed pictures we received are sealed away in a hidden envelope because they possibly reveal the gender (and we do NOT want to know the gender until that baby pops on out!) Sooo.... looks like you'll have to wait until I can make an appointment at an Apple store for them to fix our computer before you can see that cute little baby. Ok, mainly his/her feet - they were most prominent in most of the pictures today.

The baby is very healthy - good, strong heartbeat (in the high 140s if you must know...for all of you who can guess the gender by the heart rate!) It's also weighing in perfectly - 13oz this week, which is around the 75% for fetuses. Let's see.... In the pictures, we loved seeing that he/she was so squished in my uterus! Its feet were right up near the face! The first time the ultrasound tech had to measure the bottom half of the baby's body, the baby's hand was in between its legs, so she wasn't able to see the....well, you know what I'm trying to say! But while the doctor was in going over a few things with us after she had gotten all the important measurements, she secretly looked back while we were distracted (and the TV screen was off) and may have gotten a distinct picture of the private area. She printed those pictures and sealed them in an envelope for us so that I will eventually have that picture for a baby book. :)

The next stuff is mainly so I'll remember all the details from this visit, so don't be alarmed! :)

During the ultrasound, the technician couldn't get a very good view of the placenta. It's really low in my uterus, and because she couldn't get a clear outline during this ultrasound, there's a slight possibility that the placenta could be obstructing my cervix, or getting close to obstructing my cervix. If the placenta is obstructing my cervix, I would probably have to have a C-section. If it's partially obstructing my cervix,  I may have to be placed on modified bedrest towards the end of the pregnancy. But they aren't concerned about it yet. The doctor just wanted me to be aware of the reasons why I will need another ultrasound in 8 weeks or so.

I also expressed some concern about some minor heart palpitations/shortness of breath I've been experiencing recently. I mainly brought it up because of my heart murmur, and because it's never really happened before. Of course he's probably required to refer me to a cardiologist at the very mention of "heart." So I'm going next week to see one in town. But mentioning that concern caused him to go back and take a look at my bloodwork results from the beginning of the pregnancy to check my thyroid levels. They were a little bit low at the beginning of the pregnancy (not enough to cause alarm) but now with a new "symptom," he asked the nurses to check my blood once again to see if the levels have changed at all.

I'm probably making it all sound a lot worse than it actually is. They told us that there really is no reason to be concerned, but that everything should be checked out just to be on the safe side. I'm so thankful for my health and the healthy of our sweet growing babies. I am forcing myself to push all of these thoughts out of my head until we go through all the further testing (where we'll find out that everything is fine and has worked itself out perfectly! We're trusting God to work everything out for His own glory -- just as he has always done in our lives!)

So overall - we had a great visit today and got some great pictures that I can't wait to show you....one of these days! :)
