Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. (James 5:17-18)
He went on to talk about how Elijah was like a superhero to the people in New Testament times - everyone talked about Elijah, retold his stories because he did some really awesome miracles during his time. But, the worship leader continued saying, Elijah was a normal person just like you and me! He had no special powers; he was no stronger; he was no more and no less of a sinner. He was a man with his own struggles and tendencies. So what was different about him? Why was he able to work these special miracles like bringing rain during a drought or causing fire to fall from the sky and burn up the offering of an enemy? Elijah was READY. He was ready to be used by God to do miraculous things. He was ready for the Lord to carry out His will for Elijah's life.
I was just kind of struck because we have never been more ready for change in our life! We are READY for the Lord to carry out His will in our lives. We are ready to move on, ready for the next step, ready for Elizabeth City! We want the Lord to do great things in us and through us, especially in our future community. I want our hearts and our attitudes to be ready for the Lord to use us.
