School Fun
We are continuing our school time throughout the summer. I know what milestones I want Cayman to reach before we start "kindergarten" in the fall. He's not quite there yet, so we're going to keep on going! I guess we're on more of the Moody calendar for school as opposed to the traditional calendar year. Our calendar looks more like year round school. But adapted. :) We aim for 3-4 school days a week. It works well for us!
I'm very pleased with the progress we have made in our first year of homeschooling. Cayman has grown a lot and has learned so much! Currently, we're working hard on lowercase letter recognition as well as learning what sound each letter makes. He loves doing math and now also loves doing puzzles. (Charis is the true puzzle lover in the family and regularly does equivalent puzzles faster than Cayman.) He does really well when we move around the room for different activities instead of just sitting at the desk or just sitting on the floor.
Charis has also started doing school time with us. Mainly because she doesn't take a nap everyday anymore. She is growing in leaps and bounds! I'm amazed sometimes at what all she has picked up just from listening in sometimes. She's very smart and is pretty comparable to Cayman in a lot of areas. Cayman definitely has better hand control than her, but honestly, that is really the main difference between them right now. I'll have my hands full with her I believe! (Keeping her busy!)
This was a fun activity that they both loved doing. Cayman could do it unassisted while Charis needed a little bit of help. But it was a good activity for all of us to do together. Cayman was practicing the letter "j" during his lesson. So we made a jellyfish. I don't believe that this is what a real jellyfish looks like, but it worked well for our little lesson! :) Each "tentacle" had a different number of circles on it. They had to count the circles and glue that tentacle below the corresponding number on the jellyfish body. It turned out to be a good lesson involving a few different objectives. :)
How cute are they? GREAT idea, Mommy!
