We've Been Busy!

It's been a while since I've posted. But I promise I've been busy! :) My parents came to visit last week - they got here last Wednesday. My dad stayed for a week, and my mom is still here with us. We kept Daddy busy the entire time he was here! Our house was practically perfect when we moved in - no major renovations needed, thankfully! But there were quite a few odd jobs that we wanted to do, and my daddy was the perfect man for the job! This doesn't include everything, but here is some of what he did. Tomorrow (when I remember to take pictures during the day time instead of at night) I will take some more pictures of other stuff he did.

He added some shelves in one of our
hall closets near our foyer.
There were two shelves in this closet in
our downstairs spare bedroom. He added
a bar for hanging clothes for our guests
and three-four other shelves. Ahh, storage!

Most of what Daddy worked on was storage in our new house. While there are plenty of closets in our house, the closets don't have the best shelving systems/organization in them. He and Ian also added more plywood up in our attic, which basically quadrupled the amount of storage space we have available in the attic now! Woohoo :) But probably one of my favorite things that Dad did while he was here was an idea I saw on Pinterest a long time ago and fell in love with! My idea was a little different than what I saw on Pinterest, and I had no actual plans or measurements to give him. I couldn't even draw him an actual picture! Haha! I basically just described what I wanted - a platform bed for a full size mattress with storage underneath. In the front part of the bed (which I wanted turned sideways against the wall) I wanted there to be openings in the platform for wicker baskets. In the back part of the bed (that sits closest to the wall) I wanted there to be openings (hinged-type doors) cut into the platform that I could use for storing items that I use on an occasional/seasonal basis. He bought the materials Sunday evening, and by Tuesday the bed was built, painted and assembled in the spare bedroom downstairs! Hello, Superman! :) I love it too - it's exactly what I had in mind! We're putting the finishing touches on the wall and shelves behind and beside the bed. (I bought the shelves at Target.com, and thankfully they arrived a day EARLY and Mama and Daddy put them together for me.)

The pictures are a little dark, but this picture is supposed
to show the wicker baskets underneath the bed.

Mom and I are currently working on getting all the bedrooms upstairs situated.  We're about to do some flip flopping. Charis has been sleeping in the nursery - mainly because she is still sleeping in the crib-turned-daybed. And the crib will just stay put in bedroom #1 upstairs. Next week, we will work on getting the room completely ready for Baby C - all the way down to the crib bedding and unisex baby clothes in the dresser! The middle bedroom upstairs has Cayman's old queen size bed in it, which Charis will soon inherit. The room's colors weren't quite my style, so we've waited to switch Charis to the queen size bed and different room until we could repaint. Here are the before pictures:

Obviously this was once a little girl's room. And it will continue
to be a little girl's room. Just NOT with brown chair railing
and rose colored beadboard! Yuck! :)

You'll have to come back soon to see the "after" pictures of my sweet baby girl's room!
