Vacation Post 1

For vacation this year, we did something a little different! My SIL Allison found a house equidistant for all of us. And by us, I mean, my parents, my brother Jason and his family, and our family. We had struggled finding a big enough house, with a pool, equal distance for all of us to drive, in our price range. Finally, we found something. Buutt... It was kind of in the middle of nowhere! In our initial research of the area, we thought we were staying in Wytheville, VA. A friend of my SIL happened to grow up in Wytheville, and she asked Allison, "Now, why are y'all going to vacation in Wytheville?" Definitely not a very long list of restaurants or things to do on the trip advisor website for Wytheville. Upon further research of the vacation rental listing, we found out we were actually staying in Ivanhoe, VA, which is 20 miles south of Wytheville. If there is nothing to do in Wytheville, then there is REALLY nothing to do in Ivanhoe. Based on websites, the nearest store to us was "Debbie's Get-n-Go." (Once we got there though, we did find a Food Country USA, and we were able to do all of our grocery shopping there instead of having to drive to Wytheville for the Walmart!) I was so concerned that my busy on-the-go hubby (who grew up vacationing at Myrtle Beach where there is always something to do!) would be bored out of his mind!! Thankfully, we found golf courses nearby to keep him busy! And we enjoyed board games/card games/dominoes every night. We were also able to build bonfires and cook s'mores. We had a pool...but unfortunately the owners decided not to fix the heater, so the water was ICY COLD. (The kids, of course, did not care one bit!) Our first morning there, Ian decided to throw both of us in the water fully clothed! It was hard to breathe it was so cold. I don't know how all the kids swam in it for so long! We really did have a great vacation. It ended up being perfect for all of us! We spent a lot of time driving, unfortunately, just because we were so far away from civilization! :) Anything special we wanted to do was 1-1.5 hours away. Worth it, for sure. Just a lot of driving after driving 6 hours to get to our vacation destination!
