Charis is Vocal

Very vocal. Extremely talkative. Let's see, how else could I word it??

This morning she was up unusually early (any time before 8 is early in our house, just so everyone is on the same page.) Ian's alarm had already gone off, so he got up with her and let me lay in bed a little longer. Of course, she really has no volume control yet, so I heard all of their conversations. There were so many that I actually can't remember them all, and I was only in bed for 15 minutes, maybe. :) She wakes us up by talking in her bed. "Momma, where are you?" "Where are you, momma?" And then she has little inaudible conversations with herself. But you know it's really time to go get her when she just says "Where are you?" over. And over. And over again. :) She never really cries, in her bed I mean, so I usually just let her stay in there while I brush my teeth, use the bathroom, etc. Let's see. Then she said, "Wake up, daddy? Wake up. Daddy wake up." Not sure if she was asking him if he was awake, acknowleding that he had woken up, or telling Daddy to wake up because he still looked asleep! Then they began the breakfast choice discussions - "Cereal, daddy." And then when she started eating, "Nummy in my tummy, Daddy!" Then she said, "Mama sleeping? Cayman sleeping? Mama sleeping, Cayman sleeping." Ian couldn't understand what she was saying, so she just kept saying it over and over. I was hiding my laughter in my bed. :) "You sure are talkative this morning, aren't you young lady?"

She has also started singing songs for us. She doesn't really know how to end them though, so her rendition of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" usually lasts until she gets distracted by something else - so basically, it can last anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. In the van last night, I'm pretty sure she surpassed the five minute mark. (I attempted a video of her singing today only to find out some little hands had muted my camera...so no sound on the adorable video.) In addition to "Twinkle, Twinkle," which by the way sounds more like "Twinkee Twinkee," she also loves to sing the "Good Morning Song," "Itsy Bitsy Spider," "Ring Around the Rosy," and a couple of others.

Her vocabulary is very extensive - I seriously don't think I could write down every word. One of my favorite phrases that I refuse to correct: "Hold you, please," whenever she wants you to pick her up. (Side note: one of my favorite Cayman phrases that I refuse to correct: "I'm drinky, mama," aka - I'm thirsty!)

She still loves to eat food. She has turned into quite the fruit eater - but still refuses pears and peaches. "Gapes" are one of her favorites as well as apples (which could mean apple slices or applesauce).

Naptime is over. Guess how I know? She's in there singing, "Mama. The day is beginning, there's so much to do. Mama. Mama. Maamma," while clapping her hands, mind you.

  1. I don't know how I missed this post when it was originally posted, but I did. Ian used to have a saying that I refused to correct, too. It went something like, "Mama, do you gots a cookie?" I know the last time I saw Charis, I was very impressed with her ability to communicate. Can't wait to see them both again and see all the new things they've learned!

    I love you all,
    Mena
